Technology is a wonderful thing, it really is. But the more technology evolves, the more new opportunities there are for hackers to cause trouble. I don’t understand why hackers and the like are always creating new viruses and stuff. I mean, I guess I understand the hacking part where they can get our sensitive information to use for awful things like identity theft, and worse if they get into a business computer, but viruses don’t make sense to me. All they seem to do is make the computer stop working in one way or another. I don’t think they transmit any kind of secret data. I had a roommate in college who had a virus that kept her computer from allowing her to get on the internet. What a strange issue to create. I mean, how does that benefit the virus makers?

But anyway, I guess the point is we need to protect our computers from such awful things internet security is how we do that. Lucky for us there are various different types of antivirus protection programs out there. Some are more pricey than others, but some are also free, which is quite cool since even some basic protection is helpful. Nowadays we all do our banking and shopping online and our computers transmit and store all those passwords and account information that should be private.

I read this article recently where a businessman who travels to China does not bring any of his computers or cell phone with him. Instead, the brings what the article calls loaner devices and he wipes them clean after his trip. He also does not use wifi or bluetooth and even disables the phone during meetings so hackers can’t get in and obtain sensitive business information. That’s some intense measures to take but at least he is sure that his business secrets are not getting out.
