Furniture shopping, if only virtually
When we moved into our new home, most of our furniture was given to us by Hubby’s parents as extra or was brought with us because we were already using it. We bought some new essential furniture when we moved: some bookshelves, my office desk, dining room table and china cabinet, and an HD TV with stand. A lot of our furniture is a bit old or mis-matched, but it works and is functional. That’s why there hasn’t been incentive to replace any of our items of furniture yet. Even though furniture at sites like The Furniture Market is affordable, we haven’t had any extra spending money with hubby going to law school and now looking for a full time job.
Some of our friends have some really nice comfortable couches so it always gets me thinking when we visit them. I’d love to eventually replace our couch with something newer and more comfortable, since we do spend a lot of time watching the amazing TV we have. It has been around for a while, the dogs have chewed up a corner here and there, and the pull out bed portion is no longer comfortable (if it ever was). But it serves its purpose and so I haven’t justified a huge need to replace it.
I saw this interesting NY times article about multi-functional furniture. What a great idea, items that can be used for multiple things so you need less and can do more with what you have. I might have to come back to this and use some of these ideas when we get around to replacing some of our items.
