I am a book addict

Filed under: General, Entertainment @ 3:11 pm

So why do I say that I’m a book addict? Well, I also like to read, yes. But I hardly read fast enough to keep up with all the books I accumulate. I have probably 30 or more books that I haven’t read yet already sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me, and yet I’ve added more.

I went to the Katy Budget Books semi-annual sale after work yesterday, and needed to be rescued. I got stranded in the mystery/thriller department, as you can imagine heh. They had boxes and boxes of books on the floor that were on sale, all for $1 or less (the $1 was for the hardback, and I only get paperback). Hubby called me on his way home from his late class and I was still there. Then he called me when he got home, and I was finally trying to get to the line so I would stop looking around. I tried hard to only stick to authors I’ve read before or at least have heard a lot about. Even so, I ended up with 24 books. And the grand total was $15. OMG!

Then, I signed up for a bajillion book giveaway contest thingers. I found this great list of giveaways for the month of October on the Layers of Thought book blog. Right now they’re doing a giveaway for my friend Nicole’s book Release. Right now it’s only available as an e-book, but soon it will be in print too. It’s about vampires :) So if interested in the giveaway, go check it out.

I’ve been doing some book clubs lately and that’s been helping me ramp up in my reading. Right now I’m attempting to be a semi-active member in two different book clubs, but seems like I’ve been doing alternating months since I can’t find the time to read more than one book per month. But maybe soon.

  1. I can really relate to your experience with books. I do the same thing at used book stores. I have really been neglecting my reading lately and need to get back to it, or I am going to be overwhelmed with unread books.

  2. Hey Julie -
Just adding you to my google reader. I make it a point to read all my readers posts - :)
Thanks for the link - I tried to add you on twitter but I could not find the link……. some of us are just a bit technologically challenged.
Take care and welcome to the book nut club.

  5. Hi Julie! Just popping over from J. Kaye’s to say Hi at your place! :)
After about a year of obsessively buying books at used bookstores or thrift stores and entering oodles of contests I finally was able to curb the beast a little bit! It is hard though.

I hope you have a great reading week!

  6. Holy heck, that’s a lot of books for just $15! Talk about a bargain. I’m glad you’re having fun with your reading though - I need you to send me some of that reading enthusiasm so I can get into some of the books I’ve accumulated too! There’s several in my bookshelf that I’ve been meaning to read for more than 3 years now and still haven’t gotten around to.

Yay for the book clubs too, you’ve certainly got a very busy social life these days! Glad you’re having fun. :)

  7. That sounds like an awesome book sale! I don’t tend to buy books that often because they cost so much but people tend to lend or give me books to read lately. But a sale like the one you talked about, I think I would have trouble there as well. I bought a bunch of children books from the Salvation Army because it was $2 for a bag of books. I love good deals.

I enter to win books at librarything.com each moth. I plan to blog about that website sometime soon.

  8. Oh my god! That book sale sounds like heaven!

And who can resist buying more books even though you have tons of unread books i your shelves? I sure can’t! I have so many unread books but still I buy new ones every week. It’s kinda hard not to when you’re in charge of the book section at a thrift store.

Those giveaway contest sounds really great. I might look into such things myself. Gotta love free books! I hope you win something. :)

  12. Wow, you got a great deal on books. I’m going to try to find something like that around here. (I love to read also.) Enjoy all your new reading material, I bet it’ll be awhile before you run out of stuff to read!
