Fun Times at the end of Summer
The crazy summer heat is starting to let up, so looks like summer is turning into fall, Houston style. Hubby and I decided to take advantage of a free afternoon and good weather (it had been raining a lot but last Saturday the 22nd it was a lovely day) and go to Galveston to go swimming with Dixie dog. He did something really stupid that pissed me off but after we solved that problem we had a really nice day. He tried to take this side trail to get to the beach, cause we wanted to park on the beach and weren’t sure if the main parking entrance allowed it. That trail ended up dead ending in a ditch so he had to back up to get out of it. Well backing up we got stuck in the sand. Bad. We had to call a tow truck and $150 later (money that I wanted to spend on a new cell phone, not something stupid like this) and like an hour or so later we went to the main parking entrance. Turns out if you have a military ID or a dependent ID, parking is free! And you can take a route that takes you straight to the beach so you can park next to your stuff. We had a ton of fun but it was extra wavy that day and the water was deeper because of it. Poor dog got beat up by the waves a lot and was getting tired and unlike last time where the water was shallow and she could stand and take breaks, she just had to keep treading water the whole time we were in the ocean. So she was getting tired and crazy and kept swimming up to us and trying to crawl on us, and ended up scratching us up quite a bit. I still have bruises. Boo. And I guess the waves made her sick cause when we got home she threw up in her bed. Stupid dog, she could have moved and not messed up her bed. So we put the bed outside and hosed it down, but it’s been raining since so the bed is still not dry. So I jokingly tell the dog that she can’t have her bed back until my bruises that she gave me heal. hehe.
After Galveston, was Jenn’s Houston Farewell party. She’s moving to San Antonio with her fiance so she had her last rock star party, limo and all. It was a blast, at least for me. I love Howl at the Moon and we stayed there for most of the time, and then went to Wild West where some people did karaoke and some of us who were sleepy just sat and watched and tried to stay awake. After that, at 3 am, we went to get some Mexican food. Hah.
Otherwise I’ve been keeping pretty busy with all these awesome meetup groups. BTW, thanks so much Rachel for introducing me to Meetup. I had a meetup last night with a Woodlands group and people there were so nice and had me follow them so I wouldn’t get lost from the dinner place to the movie theater (we saw Julie & Julia) since I don’t know the area and it was already dark and rainy and disorienting and really busy so it was hard to see where you were going. Today I went to a meetup at the Chocolate Bar (omg yum!). And during the week I had a book club meetup where we read The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. It was a really good gothic novel. I really recommend it.

Ack, silly hubby! Bummer you ended up having to spend your new cell phone money.
It sounds like a pretty good day though besides that drama, I can just imagine poor Dixie frantically swimming amongst all the waves! Lol. Poor doggy. (But also bad doggy for puking in her bed…ewww).
You sure have been going out a lot lately too! That’s really awesome, it’s good that you’ve made so many nice new friends in Houston. I would love to join one of those Meetup type things if I wasn’t so shy!

Sounds like you’re keeping yourself busy with late summer activities. How fun! It’s been mostly cold in my parts this summer. It’s like summer never did arrive. Wish it was warm like in Texas. Lucky you! Thanks for stopping by and for your sweet comment.
Hugs
Michelle

Ouch, that’s sure a boring thing to spend money on! But shit happens.
What are those meetup groups you’re talking about? Strangers getting together to do stuff ? Or do you know eachother from some online community? Sounds like fun either way.

Angelica:
It’s http://meetup.com. Yes, strangers at first, but that’s how you make friends with people in your area. These groups are awesome.

You guys drive on the beaches where you live? We don’t do that there. I don’t see why you would need to do that. I guess it makes it easier to carry your things to the beach, but vehicles would take up a lot more room and probably make the beach dirtier. I don’t think it’s something I would like.

Wow, you have been busy! Galveston is always fun.. well not ALWAYS but usually. Sucks about the tow truck though. Getting stuck in the sand is horrible, it’s happened to me on more than one occasion.
Hope you are able to afford the new cell phone you want soon, since you had to spend your money on the tow.
Sounds like you had a blast with your friends and with the meetup groups. Your friend Rachel is a smart woman. I love San Antonio so much and wish one day to move back myself!
