Fun Times at the end of Summer
The crazy summer heat is starting to let up, so looks like summer is turning into fall, Houston style. Hubby and I decided to take advantage of a free afternoon and good weather (it had been raining a lot but last Saturday the 22nd it was a lovely day) and go to Galveston to go swimming with Dixie dog. He did something really stupid that pissed me off but after we solved that problem we had a really nice day. He tried to take this side trail to get to the beach, cause we wanted to park on the beach and weren’t sure if the main parking entrance allowed it. That trail ended up dead ending in a ditch so he had to back up to get out of it. Well backing up we got stuck in the sand. Bad. We had to call a tow truck and $150 later (money that I wanted to spend on a new cell phone, not something stupid like this) and like an hour or so later we went to the main parking entrance. Turns out if you have a military ID or a dependent ID, parking is free! And you can take a route that takes you straight to the beach so you can park next to your stuff. We had a ton of fun but it was extra wavy that day and the water was deeper because of it. Poor dog got beat up by the waves a lot and was getting tired and unlike last time where the water was shallow and she could stand and take breaks, she just had to keep treading water the whole time we were in the ocean. So she was getting tired and crazy and kept swimming up to us and trying to crawl on us, and ended up scratching us up quite a bit. I still have bruises. Boo. And I guess the waves made her sick cause when we got home she threw up in her bed. Stupid dog, she could have moved and not messed up her bed. So we put the bed outside and hosed it down, but it’s been raining since so the bed is still not dry. So I jokingly tell the dog that she can’t have her bed back until my bruises that she gave me heal. hehe.
After Galveston, was Jenn’s Houston Farewell party. She’s moving to San Antonio with her fiance so she had her last rock star party, limo and all. It was a blast, at least for me. I love Howl at the Moon and we stayed there for most of the time, and then went to Wild West where some people did karaoke and some of us who were sleepy just sat and watched and tried to stay awake. After that, at 3 am, we went to get some Mexican food. Hah.
Otherwise I’ve been keeping pretty busy with all these awesome meetup groups. BTW, thanks so much Rachel for introducing me to Meetup. I had a meetup last night with a Woodlands group and people there were so nice and had me follow them so I wouldn’t get lost from the dinner place to the movie theater (we saw Julie & Julia) since I don’t know the area and it was already dark and rainy and disorienting and really busy so it was hard to see where you were going. Today I went to a meetup at the Chocolate Bar (omg yum!). And during the week I had a book club meetup where we read The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. It was a really good gothic novel. I really recommend it.
