“But it’s a Toyota” said the man in a confused tone
That’s what the parking structure guard said to me Thursday evening as my car was being pushed out of the garage and attached to the tow truck. That’s right, my Toyota did the unthinkable: it broke down. To be fair, the car is a 1997! And the problem was small, just the starter finally died, after a year of taking it a few tries to get the car going. And a starter isn’t all that expensive, like ~$150 so it wasn’t all that painful of a process. But let me tell you it wasn’t pleasant to come to my car after a long day and try to leave the parking garage to go home, only to hear *click* rather than *vroom* when I turned the key. See, that morning there was some terrible traffic on my route to work, the freeway was literally a parking lot, where usually there’s some mild traffic. No idea what that was about since there was no accident or any more construction than usual. Just random parking lot traffic. So I got to work an hour late, thus had to stay an hour late. So I’m already hungry and wanting to be home and instead I am trapped. I called hubby and he called our insurance, USAA, and they sent me a tow truck. Hubby also came to pick me up. Since I was in a parking garage, and a tow truck can’t go inside (too tall/heavy), the tow driver had to push my car in neutral around the garage and outside to get to the tow truck. That’s when the garage guard made that comment. By then Hubby showed up and we followed the tow truck to Pep Boys. Since it was just the starter and they had the parts I only had to leave my car for one day. I also had them clean corrosion off my battery, do a coolant flush (my AC had given me some trouble a few times, which in the Texas summer heat is not ok), and change my oil. I’m glad I was able to pick up my car Friday, I just had to have Hubby drive me to and from work that day haha, so I didn’t have to get a rental.
As for the social security issue, I sent them my high school transcript with a letter explaining what’s up so they can match it to the rest of my files. I guess we’ll see what they end up doing, they work pretty slow.
The ceiling has been patched up so all is well. $150 later, we can forget it ever happened. Hubby keeps finding new ways to try to hurt himself though, with burning his fingers on a pot just pulled out of the oven, nearly cutting himself with knives while he works, and the like. Good thing his medical dependent card came if he needs some attention haha.
