Friday the 13th = awesome birthday!

Filed under: General, Love, Bridal, Entertainment @ 10:58 pm

Many people seem to think Friday the 13th means bad things are gonna happen. Well that’s not true for me. They’re usually my best days. So Friday was my 24th birthday. Many thanks to those of you who left me happy birthday comments. Thank you to Miranda and Irene for the cards. A big thank you to Maria for the pressies and card!

First, I come into work and there’s a happy birthday balloon and a singing card from one of the ladies that sits next to me. So that was neat and all day people were saying happy birthday to me cause the balloon made it very obvious heh. I left work about a half hour early (which is ok since I stayed about a half hour later earlier this week so I still put in my 40), and I called my fiance to let him know I was on my way. He said to wait for him cause he was on his way to me heh. He wanted to ride BART with me home and had something for me. He brought me a bouquet of red roses! I kinda wished I hadn’t left work early so everyone at work could see how wonderful he is hehehe. So we rode BART home together and went to my house so I could get some food before our dance lesson.

Our first dance lesson of the 5 I bought for our first dance together at the reception went really well. Shirley, the teacher, made it really easy for us. The song we picked, Hawaiian Wedding Song by Elvis, works really well because it has no specific beat so we can speed up or slow down and it would still look good. So we started off with some basics, cause my fiance is a beginner and it’s been a while since I’ve done any dancing, so it worked fine. She taught us how we would walk onto the dance floor and come together into the dance frame and two turns with two dance frames (one close, one slightly more open). So this should be workable and our dance will look nice. On the way back he made an illegal u-turn and we got pulled over. But the cop didn’t give us a ticket. I felt like it was my Friday the 13th birthday magic that convinced him leave us alone and not give us a ticket hehehe. No we didn’t outright tell him it was my bday or anything.

After that we went to a comedy club for the 10pm show. Since it was my birthday and I contacted them in advance, I got the birthday club rates. That means 4 free and the rest of my party is two for 1. We had 9 people so that worked out pretty nicely. I was just extremely happy that I was surrounded by friends. It’s always been me and my fiance together at my birthday, but for the past several years, that’s all it’s been. Maybe another friend or so. But not a group. I’ve often felt like I didn’t really have any true friend cause no one was ever around for important things like birthdays, they always had some excuse or flaked out. Well this time, I had friends. And it was amazing. It felt sooo good to be surrounded by people again. My best friend from high school was there, aka my “sister”, my fiance of course, a friend of the family and his friend, another two girls from high school and one of the girls’ boyfriend, and also Maria cause she’s super awesome and happens to live close enough to transcend the boundary of online friend to online and offline friend hehe. Of course, what sucks is I’m finally reconnecting with people and having friends again, and I’m moving in 2 months. That’s a bit sad, but whatcha gonna do. Maybe at least that will help me make new friends easier. Of course, many people didn’t show up, even those who said they might or would or whatever, but at least it wasn’t everyone who flaked, just a few. Anyway, two people even brought me pressies! Maria brought me an awesome belly dancing fitness dvd and music cd and book and even symbols and belly jewel set. And a sudoku book! And the friend of the family brought me the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest dvd and the Evanescence The Open Door CD and a little teddy bear and necklace. ANNND he paid for our tab. Cause the comedy club has a two item minimum. So I’m a special birthday girl heh.

Today we worked on our photo slideshow for the reception. We picked out the music and some of the photos, and we realized windows movie maker is really awesome. It has all these options for music and captions and even effects for each photo. And my baby is so sweet and nice to me and treats me like a princess and I love him :) Oh, and my tiara is in. So I’m officially a princess now hehe. Today we also worked on the isle. From a party supply store and Michaels we bought a decoratory ribbon that has 6 white roses on it, two of them. We bought little white baggies and red heart pebbles and white stone pebbles and red rose material petals and filled the baggies with those, then tied the baggies between the flowers on the ribbon thing. so it’s really pretty. The pebbles will hold it down and add color, and it gives a nice cute isle to walk down. My worry is how we’re gonna get it all to Hawaii. Heh.

Tomorrow, Sunday, I’m celebrating my birthday with my family. So that will be nice too. Kinda gotta celebrate with people as much as I can before I move away and hardly ever see them.
