So Overwhelming
My brain has been on overload for a while now. So much is going on, and there’s so much to do. My future hubby (I don’t like the word fiance so still have been referring to him as my bf, and others have said his title should be upgraded, so that’s his new title) is coming home from his military training soon. Actually, his graduation is March 1! He’ll be driving back from Virginia to California, stopping by Florida to visit his sister and then Texas to meet with his new commander of the Army unit he’s transferring into and also to meet with our Realtor. So, a recap for any new readers and any who haven’t been here for a while: we’re getting married in June, and moving to Texas. He’s transferring to a unit in Tx so he’s stopping by to start the paperwork. We’ve been looking at housing online so we can find something to purchase. The good thing is, Tx real estate is very cheap, especially compared to Ca. The bad thing, I’ll be the only one working since he’ll be in law school, other than his National Guard one weekend a month pay, that I’m concerned about us being able to afford it. However, if we look at the scenario of staying in Ca and renting an apartment for us, the rent would be comparable to the mortgage we are expecting to pay. So even here we would struggle, and we can’t live with our parents after we’re married heh. So even though it will be hard, it’s the best thing to do. We’ve been looking at houses between $100,000 and $150,000, with at least 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a large yard for the two dogs (my future hubby and his dog, Dixie; yes he counts as a dog hehehe), and it has to look nice too. Since he’ll be there in the first week of March, he’ll get to look at the properties we’re interested in, and then we can select what to buy. This is all new to me, even though my Mom is a real estate broker here in Ca, cause things are so different in Tx. For example, we learned that the property tax is way high! But, can’t do anything about that. So long as I have a job that pays comparable to what I’m getting now, we should be ok. Especially since his parents say they’ll pay for law school. They better not back on on that hehe. We’re screwed if they don’t.
In other news, we’re having some issues with the Ca reception. Another recap, most of my family and friends of the family is here in Ca, while most of his family and people are in Fl and Ga. So we’re getting married in Hawaii in early June, with just our parents and his sister and my “sister” (aka best friend from high school who’s birthday is ~8 hours before mine). Then in late June we’re having a formal reception in Ca for my side. Then in early July we’re having a more casual reception in Fl/Ga for his side. My parents and I are dealing with the Ca reception, and his side is in charge of whatever they want to do for their reception. Anyway, the Ca reception is in a Russian restaurant, that fits up to 120 people. We have an agreement with the restaurant for 100 people (minimum to rent out the full place) and we have to pay extra for any additional people. Right now we’re having issues with the band because it’s supposed to be included, plus some tips, but the band lady singer when we met with her didn’t tell us their additional costs until after we had agreed to her and started working with her on the songs list. So of course we’re not all that willing to pay extra since we weren’t told up front. This kind of thing has happened before according to the restaurant manager and they’re firing one of the band people who is in charge of the prices, and they’ll see if the rest of the band stays or if they have to get a new band. So this is kinda scary cause we don’t know what’s gonna happen with that. We’ll find out in the next few weeks I guess. The invitations have already been sent out to family and friends of the family, and a few of my friends, and if rsvp’s come back with less people that we expected, I can start inviting more people. We’ll see how that goes. In any case my future hubby and I are planning on a separate party for friends our age, that’s no formal at all, and we’re thinking it’s easier to invite friends to that instead of the formal receptions so we don’t have to pay a lot extra and they don’t have to give us expensive gifts if they can’t afford it. So basically we’re gonna party like 4 times heheheh.
